One summer in Buffalo it was extremely hot and the heat lasted for several days, maybe even weeks. I do not remember the year,
I just remember it did not cool off at night, which was what usually occurred. It was hard to go to sleep with just the windows open and no air conditioning. Gertrude became resourceful by putting the sheets in a paper bag in the refrigerator. She would put them in a bag in the refrigerator in the morning and just before bedtime she would make the bed. It worked the sheets were chilled and it made going to sleep much easier.
Gertrude certainly was a remarkable woman.
