Gertrude would have never worn that button!

The picture for this blog is a button was worn during the Kennedy/Nixon campaign.

Gertrude would never have worn it! She was in her early 20’s when women first got the right to vote and she voted in every election. She never told anyone who she had voted for because it was her vote.

The first Presidential election I can remember was the one between Kennedy and Nixon. The Kennedy/Nixon election brought up the religious card. What will happen if a Catholic is elected? (Will the Pope run the USA?) Gertrude never commented on that but she did comment on all the signs and posters that were plastered all over Buffalo. She hated all the signs and the fact that they were not taken down after the election.

I wonder what she would say about the TV ads for this year’s election.
