Fifty years ago, my grandparents moved to Florida. Leaving western New York was a hard transition but the Buffalo winters had finally gotten the best of them. When they moved Gertrude gifted me so many pieces of her furniture, china, glassware, and other treasured pieces of her life. Today we are moving all her belongings along with most of our acquisitions back to Kansas.
We have lived in South Carolina about 7 years and have enjoyed the southern lifestyle but most of the family is back in Kansas, so there we are going.
I hope Gertrude knows how much I enjoy having her belongings. They bring back so many great memories of her and her infinite wisdom. As the furniture is wrapped and carted out the door, I think about how many times it has been across the country. I have moved too many times to count.
Being nostalgic when relocating is not fun. Uprooting has so many negative thoughts. Plus, it means establishing with relationships with a new doctor, dentist, hair person, vet, church, friends, etc.
Gertrude only had one dog and one cat in her lifetime, and neither was around the last time she moved. We have 2 dogs and a cat and all of them wonder what is going on. They have become clingy, and they all do not want us out of their sight.
Enough about the move. Once we are settled in Kansas Gertrude knows best will be online. Until then thanks for being loyal readers.
