Our tax Dollars

I am glad Gertrude is not alive today. Why? Because health care today is insane and there is no common sense among some health care workers.

I was consulting at a long tern care facility, AKA nursing home and was asked to do an assessment on an older gentleman who was just placed on hospice. Because of Medicare regulations I had to do a comprehensive nutritional assessment. I went through his care plan to find out that the MD had discontinued most of his medication except for pain. I observed him in a wheelchair refusing his meal and choking on his water. I returned to the office to document in his chart and was told I should do a physical nutrition assessment. What that means is I would have to look for muscle wasting, temporal wasting, etc. and document it. So, there was a man who was dying, and I am supposed to do a physical exam to prove he is emaciated. Oh, I forgot to tell you that in the past 3 days he lost 5 pounds. I refused to do the physical exam. I asked why I should do it and was told that the nursing home/MD would receive more compensation. Is it not great to know how our tax dollars for the elderly are being spent?
